Blood Test
Blood tests What Are Blood Tests?
Blood tests help doctors check for certain diseases and conditions. They also help check the function of your organs and show how well treatments are working.
Specifically, blood tests can help doctors: Evaluate how well organs—such as the kidneys, liver, thyroid, and heart—are working. Diagnose diseases and conditions such as cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, anemia (uh-NEE-me-eh), and coronary heart disease. Find out whether you have risk factors for heart disease. Check whether medicines you’re taking are working. Assess how well your blood is clotting.
Why do some blood tests require fasting?
Everything you eat and drink contains vitamins, proteins, and other nutrients that can cause the related levels in your blood to temporarily spike or drop.
Fasting for 8-12 hours helps ensure that blood test results are free from these variables, making your test results as accurate as possible.
Some common tests that may require fasting include: cholesterol tests, sugar tests, liver function tests, kidney function tests, basic metabolic panel, glucose tests.
No appointment needed for our phlebotomy service but please make sure you are fasting from midnight before coming to the clinic. Please contact us if you have any specific blood tests required.
The results can be sent to your own GP or any other clinics if you wish without extra cost. You can also keep the hard copy of your results for your own record.
